Loss and Bereavement Doula Package:
Preparing for Birth
◯ 3 prenatal visits where we discuss your goals and make support plans for the end of your pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. We will discuss more in-depth how I will be assisting you as your doula, and any questions or concerns regarding your rights, procedures, a miscarriage kit, pregnancy, birth and postpartum. We’ll think about coping mechanisms and ways to bring you comfort and ease through labor. We'll make a birth plan and talk about ideas for a ceremony and ritual to signify the birth and death of baby.
◯ During labor, I will support you by helping you use the coping methods we discussed, support for your partner if one is present, advocate for you and the baby according to your birth plan and make sure your desires immediately after birth are met.
◯ After delivery, my support will be in helping you and loved ones present navigate hospital procedure and I will be there to hold space for your loss and to see that your voice is heard in whatever it is you choose to do after the birth. If you choose to bond with baby, I will be there to protect the bonding space and make sure any extra things are taken care of. If you want, I am there to take pictures of you and the baby as you spend time together. If you choose not to bond, I will be there for you in any other way you need me and hold space for your feelings and emotions after birth.
Postpartum
◯ 1 prenatal visit where we will discuss how your pregnancy has been and what your goals and plans are for ceremony and ritual, memorial and/or funeral, meal planning, healing/ recovery, whether or not you choose to express breastmilk, housework, family visits, etc. We’ll create a postpartum plan so nothing is left out. We'll also discuss when you want me to come and assist you, for how many hours and days, and other logistics.
◯ For clients who are looking to use my services after labor, birth and death have already taken place, the visit will consist of the very same thing. I'll be able to see how postpartum is already looking for you and we can talk about what’s working and what's not.
◯ During the visits we scheduled, I will support you as you navigate your grief and be there to hold space for you if you want to talk, or if you want me to sit with you in quiet solitude. From making meals, light housework, and errands to emotional support, sibling support, and processing the birth I'll be there for you. Most of all I will be there to hold space for all emotions that come with loss and I'll welcome every bit of your experience so you can feel unashamed of your experience and fully live and feel the feelings of loss and grief.
◯ On my last visit, we will talk about either continuing care if need be, or tying up loose ends and make any needed referrals to be sure I’m leaving you with my job done.
◯ After that, if you want, I will give you a call at least once every other month until you are one year postpartum. I’ll check up on you and make sure you are being loved and well suppoted.
